Go gracefully
like the heron rising
from the mirror
of its cypress-rimmed pond,
with two languid flaps
of its wide, white wings–
once, twice, away–
toes briefly trailing parallel lines
in the breathless, calm water
where early bronze sunlight
ripples, spreads and returns to stillness.
