"Namaste":
this simple Sanskrit greeting
both opened and closed our yoga class.
I was told it meant,
"The divine in me
welcomes the divine in you,"
a sentiment I experienced then and honor now.

In the years since,
I've discerned there are many ways of understanding "Namaste,"
just as there are many of ways of understanding
the words and phrases of my own religious heritage,
like "Trinity,"
"salvation"
and even the simple "God bless."

For me, now,
"Namaste"
has come to mean,
"The Christ in me
welcomes the Christ in you."

And what so pleases my soul,
is that whatever I may mean
or you may mean,
what really matters,
is what God means,
and more importantly,
the mystery that moves in that moment.

"Namaste!"
