The 60-Second Sabbath

Job 3

Many years later
in an unexpected moment of divine candor
(seated at the fire,
sharing a glass of ruby port),
God opened up to Job:

"What I really wanted
was for you to yell,
'Enough!
Enough taking! Enough destroying!
Enough pain! Enough loss!'
I wanted you to be more like me–
putting your foot down,
demanding your rights as one made in my image."

Both stared into the fire.
The dark wine danced with the flames.

"Well," sighed Job.
"All of life's a learning curve,
isn't it."
It was a statement,
not a question.
