The 60-Second Sabbath

Dirk deVries

Obliquity 2

Are you someone infected too
with the constant call to do,
to accomplish, overcome,
get just one more damn thing done?

Are their meetings to attend?
Loads of clothes to clean and mend?
Stacks of bills to sort and pay?
Lists of folks for whom to pray?

A dishwasher that needs unloading,
a pile of shirts for ironing, folding,
a litter box that begs for scrubbing?
(Who the heck has time for clubbing!)

There's barely time to water plants,
to cook some meals and spray for ants,
to cut the grass, to dust the books,
to hang the stuff back on its hooks.

"I ought!" "I should! "I really must!"
I'm weighted down by heavy trust
of obligations day on day.

I simply want some time to play!
