She lived a life of preparation–
righteously aloof,
never stepping on cracks,
gripping purity,
talons sunk deep into the Word,
over-atoning for the occasional slip-up.
She built her escape pod
just large enough for one
(well, two perhaps, if you include Jesus–
small enough to fit in the glove box).
And when the end came
and the long, bumpy journey through darkness,
the door hissed open upon
dust and dry wind,
the Jesus in the glove box,
now limp and lifeless.
