The 60-Second Sabbath

Dirk deVries

When I Was a Child

When I was a child
I spoke like a child
and had to eat my peas.
But now that I've grown
I want it be known
I eat just what I please.

Don't be alarmed
I mean no harm;
I just want to be my own man.
When I want a drink
or to go off and think,
    I will; I shall: I can.

I still face the stress,
the pain and duress,
enduring the day's strain and strife.
It's just that I've found
my own way around
this dizzying maze we call life.
