Spirituality and Religion

Maybe you're one of the many
who claim to be spiritual,
but not religious.

I get that:
you believe in something or someone
beyond yourself,

but you don't see the need
for definitions and creeds,

and you certainly can't stand the hypocrisy, exclusion and cruelty
foisted on the world
by many in the organized church.

Maybe think of religion as the outer form
encasing your particular form of spirituality.
Your religion
looks unlike any other religion
because it is the embodiment
of your unique spirituality.

I picture it this way:
my religion is the cloak
wrapped around my spirituality–
my very own coat of many colors.
