We make 100 PB&J sandwiches,
gently spreading crunchy peanut butter
on donated white bread
(which tears easily given the fragility of the bread
and the stiffness of the peanut butter).

The other slice of bread
we coat with squeezable grape jelly
(squeezability speeds up the process).

Some of the bread is unusable,
too squished to be reshaped into slices,
but we still manage our goal–
100 sandwhiches,
each packed in a sack
with a banana, a bag of chips and a granola bar.

Tomorrow
these lunches will be the only meal of consequence
for 100 homeless people
holding on at Civic Center Park.

Jesus hands out the lunches;
see what five loaves and two fishes can do?
Jesus eats the lunches;
"What you do for least of these, you do for me."

And the kingdom creeps one step closer…
