The 60-Second Sabbath

To Choose Tranquility

3:00 AM.
Why am I awake?
Odd dreams, perhaps?

I scan myself:
    Seems nothing troubles the mind.
A slight shift eases an ache in my back.
    Work is hours away.
I find no logic for disturbance.

So I tell myself:
    Enjoy the moment.
    Make it stillness.
    Breathe into Abba, Amma.
    Tim, Romeo and Willy breathe gently around me;

absorb their quiet.

Yes,
dust bunnies of doubt, responsibility, error
may lurk beneath the bed,
but I am safe here,
beneath the light shield of this sheet,
cool air pooling the room,
rippled by the ceiling fan.

Unreasonably awake at 3:00 AM,
I choose tranquility.
