Sermon in the Park, Part 1

"That whole eye-for-an-eye,
    tooth-for-a-tooth thing?
That's crap–
    always has been.
It never was a part of the plan."

He speaks,
    as he loves to do,
to friends and supporters
    gathered at the park
on a warm summer evening
    close to sunset.

"The sooner you let that one go,
    the better off you'll be."

"But what about…?"

"Crap," he says,
    anticipating the question.

"Yes, but then there's the…"

"Crap."

"And…?"

"Crap."

Silence settles.
    We turn our attention
to the western sky,
    shifting to orange.

"You spend too much time
    worrying your way through the details
of fairness and consequences
    instead of just releasing and loving.
Way too much time…"
