Not to be confused with
The Mighty Wurlitzer,
that magnificent
dual console,
four keyboard,
58-rank organ
anchoring Radio City Music Hall
on 6th Avenue
in New York City,

the lowly Wurlitzer
just moved into our study,
a decades-old console piano
that spent its working life
absorbing the pounding and gouging,
the musical indoctrination
of generations of school children.

Our lowly Wurlitzer
spent the last few months
in a hot warehouse in Littleton, CO,
huddled together
with six of its decommissioned comrades,
three riding mowers,
and several dozen, battered, classroom chairs.

But now,
the lowly Wurlitzer,
newly cleaned, tuned and tweaked,
waits proudly in the next room,
transitioning to a simpler life
with fewer demands
and gentler hands
and the occasional caress
of cat paws.

Welcome home.
