The heart I abandoned
waits where I left it.
It knows its pain
and understands that I was unequipped
to handle a troubled heart
and therefore had to leave.
But I cannot live
without my heart;
incomplete,
I live unconsciously.
I go back;
I shall find and comfort by heart
and face and heal the pain.
The road away
leads to distraction, triviality and disconnection.
The road back
leads to wholeness and engagement
and, yes, pain,
but pain that hurts less
than life without heart.
