The 60-Second Sabbath

Dirk deVries

Hosea 13:5-8

I stray.
God roars, pounces.
Something precious is threatened.
That something is me.

Observe the passionate, primal response
of the mother bear
when her cub is in danger.

Not anger at behavior
but grief over separation.

Growling, fierce and fighting mad,
God rears, claws bared,
not to punish,
but to protect.

Lion. Leopard. Lord. Love.
